All optical residue arithmetic with micro ring resonators and its application

In this paper the concept of residue number system in optical domain is demonstrated. The RNS arithmetic based on parallel barrel shifter idea is designed by means of micro ring resonators. Micro ring resonators are very compact, fast and CMOS compatible optical element which are sensitive to specific wavelength and are able to divert groups of inputs light. By designing Add/Drop filter based on micro ring resonators, the input light can be deviated to the corresponding output in order to implement the barrel shifter. By properly adjusting the properties of micro rings, such as a ring radius and coupling coefficient the operations of RNS addition, subtraction and multiplication are obtained. In addition, a scheme for all optical encryption/decryption according to optical RNS systems is proposed which can be applied for security enhancement in chip to chip communications. This structure is simulated by means of OptiSystem software. The simulation results show that the proposed optical encryption/decryption system can be used to form a high security chip to chip communication.
