Upper Bound of Coherent Integration Loss for Symmetrically Distributed Phase Noise

To evaluate the coherent integration loss caused by the phase noise, an analytic upper bound is proposed in this letter when the phase noise has symmetric distribution. The proposed bound may accurately indicate the possible worst degradation with a maximum integration loss even when the distribution of phase noise is unknown, which is helpful for the evaluation of the negative effects of the phase noise. Furthermore, the specified discrete dual-peak distribution (DPD) is also given to achieve the proposed bound. Finally, some numerical experiments are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed bound.
