KINESCOPE SPOTSIZEASITRELATES TOPICTUREQUALITY

Thedegradation of kinescope spotsize (spot blooming) withincreasing beamcurrent isawellknownphenomenon thathassignificant bearing on kinescope resolution. Forpurposes ofimproving kinescope design evaluation and production lotmonitoring, itisdesirable to quantify theeffects ofbeamcurrent onpicture quality. Thebasis forthispaperistheassumptionthatkinescope performance canbedefined intermsofitsspatial frequency response. Computeroriented techniques whichareemployed toanalyze alight outputprofile ofthespotand calculate theassociated spatial frequency responseofthekinescope arediscussed. Inaddition, thenon-linear effects ofthehumaneyeare considered. Advantages anddisadvantages of bothtechniques areexamined andsometypical measurements areshown.
