Executive overview on component-based design and integration platforms

Component-Based Design is expected to increase software productivity, by reducing the amount of effort needed to develop, update, and maintain systems. There are two main benefits expected from component technology. First, it gives structure to system design and system development, thus making system verification and maintenance more tractable. Second, it allows reuse of development effort by allowing components to be re-used across products and in the longer term by paving the way for a market for software components.
