A New Strategy for Hydrodynamics — Lattice Gases

Very interesting perspectives of massively parallel and interactive simulations for phenomena in fluid mechanics have appeared in 1985, thanks to a technique of a drastically new conception called lattice gas hydrodynamics. It has been developed by scientists from the observatory of Nice (M. Henon, J.P. Rivet and the author) together with scientists and engineers from Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (A. Clouqueur, D. d’ Humieres, P. Lallemand and Y. Pomeau) and of Los Alamos (B. Hasslacher, G. Doolen, et T. Shimomura). About ten other research centers in France, Belgium, Italy, the Soviet Union and particularly in the United States also work in this field.
