Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses

Key messages: • Influenza activity is decreasing but remains elevated throughout California. • Several more weeks of flu activity are expected. • Influenza B viruses are now more common than influenza A viruses in California. • This season’s preliminary flu vaccine efficacy estimates are 42% for influenza B, 25% for A (H3N2), and 67% for A (H1N1). • Based on these estimates, flu vaccination will still prevent a substantial amount of illness.
