Earth Structures Engineering

Based on a background of soil mechanics and elementary geology, the book is intended as a comprehensive introduction to the design of earth slopes, dams and other structures made from earth materials. Work on earth structures discussed is primarily concerned with limiting equilibrium so that geological factors, site investigation and interpretation of test data are of great importance. The subject is discussed in the following chapters: 1. Earth structures and air photo interpretation; 2. Earth mechanics in earth structures engineering; 3. Embankments and tunnels; 4. Slope stability; 5. Earth dams; and, 6. Ground subsidence and mine backfill. Examples of problems and problem assignments are also included. (TRRL)
