Electrical conductivity of air on the Greenland Ice Cap

Results of theoretical and experimental investigations of the conductivity of air on the Greenland ice cap are discussed. The shielding of the natural radioactive material in the soil by a thick layer of ice and snow and the absence of condensation nuclei in the air result in a very stable conductivity in fair weather. The electrode effect close to the ground is pronounced because of these conditions.
