Abstract A solution for the flexural vibration of an elastically supported Timoshenko beam which is subjected to an axial force and a moving transverse load is obtained. The influences of the axial force and the load velocity on the beam response are studied and the characteristics of the various resonances are examined. The results are also compared with those by the Euler beam theory.
