Failure recovery solutions using cognitive mechanisms for Software Defined Optical Networks

Fault tolerance is one of the most desirable properties in optical networks. Meanwhile, the Software Defined Optical Network (SDON) is an innovative network paradigm that separates the control plane from the underlying data forwarding plane. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on the restoration mechanism for SDONs, and the out-of-band control is achieved for the communication between the controller and forwarding elements. Finally, we demonstrate the implementation of proposed resilience solutions mainly including failure detection scheme, dynamic routing algorithm and failure recovery application based on the SDON controller. Experimental results show the overall feasibility and efficiency of our method.
