GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT OF UNBOUND AGGREGATE

Improvement of highway unbound aggregate material behaviour using geogrids is researched. Geogrid reinforcement into roadway unbound aggregate does, in some cases, improve the performance of the pavement. Unfortunately its optimal location has not been established. Presented are experimental results for three different construction methods of geogrid reinforcement in unbound aggregate material. Repeated loading and static loading of the soil layers was undertaken. Conclusions are made in regard to the optimal position of the geosynthetic reinforcement. The advantages of the different construction methods studied and field applications are discussed. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 890992.
