Effect of end attachment on the strength of fiber-reinforced composite cylinders

The effect of end fixity on the strength of composite cylindrical characterization specimens subjected to axisymmetric loading is studied both analytically and experimentally. Flügge's shell theory in conjunction with the maximum-strain criterion is used to study the effect of end moments and load introduction on tube strength. Analytical results are compared to data obtained on graphite/epoxy fiber-reinforced tubes and flat specimens.
