Cyril Northcote Parkinson, 1909–1993, coined the phrase ‘Parkinson's law’ in an article published by the Economist in 1958: work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. Parkinson collected his aphorisms and published them in a book. This article argues, as recent events show, that work expands so as to fill the computers available—and then overflows, but it needn't!
