Diaqua[ N -(3-carboxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)alaninato-κ 3 O 2 , N , O ′]copper(II) dihydrate

In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C11H9NO5)(H2O)2]·2H2O, in which N-(3-carboxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)alaninate (H3ALS) is the Schiff base synthesized from l-alanine with 3-carboxysalicylaldehyde, the copper(II) ion is pentacoordinated in a square-pyramidal geometry, with the HALS2− dianion acting as a tridentate ONO-chelator in a plane, and two water molecules occupying the apical site and the remaining basal site.
