PLOT3D is a versatile computer program which allows for the presentation of two-dimensional geographic surfaces in three-dimensional form with any orientation and perspective. The program contains fifteen variable parameters fourteen of which can be readily changed with each project submission to provide different dimensions, viewing orientations and profiles of the final map product. Eight of the fourteen parameters set the desired dimensions of the array, while the remainder are responsible for viewing orientations and vertical exaggeration. The final map may take the form of either a three-dimensional histogram-map or a three-dimensional isarithmic cartogram. All of the above operator controlled variables are listed on two cards in the deck, which facilitates ease of handling changes and allows for the generation of numerous map products, each with a different orientation and dimension if desired. The program in use at Indiana State University is written in Fortran IV and is run on an IBM 360/40 comput...
