COMMISSIONING AND OPERATIVE EXPERIENCE OF TCSC FOR DAMPING POWER OSCILLATION IN THE BRAZILIAN NORTH-SOUTH INTERCONNECTION

SUMMARY The Brazilian north-south interconnection was commissioned in the first quarter of 1999. The final commissioning tests involved verification of the damping performance of two TCSCs located at each end of the interconnection. This paper presents some results from the testing along with discussions about different controller algorithms for damping of power oscillations. The TCSCs showed to be a powerful means to damp power oscillations in the North-South interconnection. A novel power oscillation damping controller was developed and tested with very satisfactory results.
