Setting a reasonable forward-looking alerting threshold is a great significant problem in the research of terrain awareness and warning system.A methodology based on probabilistic analysis for the evaluation of forward-looking alerting threshold was proposed.Firstly,by analyzing the principle of forward-looking alerting function, three kinds of uncertainties influencing threshold value were summed up.Based on the statistics analysis, the performance of forward-looking alerting function of TAWS was evaluated by three indexes: incident rate, alert rate, success rate of alert.Lastly, the aircraft's trajectory models with and without an alert were studied, and using Monte Carlo simulation method, the optimal alert threshold values could be obtained. The optimal threshold values are identical with the practice.
