Industry Science Sponsored Section COMPARISON OF THE PERFORMANCE OF FOUR ELASTOMERIC DEVICES

www.ejhp.org 54 INTRODUCTION Elastomeric devices are disposable infusion pumps mainly consisting of an elastomeric reservoir in which the solution to be administered is placed, and a flow restrictor system located in the administration tube set. The combination of both the pressure generated by the filled reservoir and the flow restrictor, sets a fixed flow rate of the solution according to Poiseuille-Hagen’s law, independently of gravity. Because they improve the patient’s quality of life (they are small, lightweight, quiet, and discreet) and the high level of safety they offer, the use of elastomeric devices has grown in both hospital and homecare settings.
