Transient current based earth fault location for distribution automation in non-effectively earthed networks

A single phase earth fault location method for distribution automation of non-effectively earthed networks is presented. It is based on comparing the similarities of zero mode transient currents of faulty feeder, which is measured by the correlation coefficient. The correlation coefficient between the transient currents at the both end of a feeder section is close to 1 for the healthy section and -1 for the faulty section. The feasibility of the method was proved by simulation and field test results.
