Integrated voltage control and frequency regulation for stand-alone micro-hydro power plant

Abstract India has enormous potential of micro hydel plants with total power estimated upto 10000 MW from natural waterfalls and run-of-river schemes. Micro-hydro power plants provide electricity for remote rural communities. Majority of the micro grid systems are isolated from the grid and for ensuring the stability in voltage and frequency at varying loads require good control system. A novel approach with Synchronous Generator in Electronic Load Controller (ELC) is discussed here. ELC design is attempted using an uncontrolled bridge rectifier, an IGBT chopper which feeds a resistive dump load. Proposed ELC is simulated and results are presented.
