Achieving Color Match between Scanner, Monitor, and Film: A Color Management Implementation for Feature Animation

This paper describes the development and implementation of a color management system at Warner Bros. Feature Animation (WBFA). The need for consistent and repeatable color matches between reflective artwork, scanned images viewed on monitor displays, and film print is explored, while presenting the various practices currently in place. The paper illustrates how the color management system was implemented, in accordance with the International Color Consortium's framework, and describes how it was introduced into a production environment. Results from measured data, demonstrating the benefits of the system, are presented.
