Numerical analysis of electric field at the contact point between a spacer aerial cable and a spacer

The paper presents a numerical study of the electric field behavior at the zero-angle contact point between a spacer and a space aerial cable. The calculation configuration is an insulated conductor lying on a dielectric solid. The electric field is calculated by using the finite element method (FEM) in two dimensions. We examine the error of the contact-point electric field in comparison with the analytical results. From the calculation results, the electric field is always maximum at the contact point. The error of the contact-point electric field decreases with increasing the total number of nodes and the size of calculation region. However, too large calculation region increases the error of the contact-point electric field.
