This paper firstly concisely introduces the research background of Virtual Prototyping Engineering Grid (VPEG), and presents the connotation of VPEG. Then, combined with authors’ ongoing project, the phased research achievements of VPEG are introduced in detail, including the prototyping system and some solved key technologies, some typical application demonstration systems of VPEG. It is known from the primary practice that: (1) VPEG is a new supporting platform for VPECP. It can realize the dynamic sharing and reuse of various resources in VPECP safely, the whole life cycle team/organization/project/process/product management and optimization, the collaborative modeling/simulation/evaluation/VR, dynamic composition, scheduling and execution of VPECP applications, etc.(2) The prototyping system of VPEG developed by authors achieves technical innovations in architecture, portals, web-based RT1, service virtualization, model discovery based on semantics technologies.(3) VPEG expands the application fields of grid technology. Finally, the conclusion and some further works are given.
