Mobility of Technetium in Various Rocks and Defined Combinations of Natural Minerals

In order to better understand the migration behaviour of technetium in natural rock-water systems, various soft rocks and defined combinations of minerals in contact with Tc-spiked model water have been investigated. Batch-experiments, recirculationcolumns and flow-through-columns have been used. Defined combinations of minerals, consisting of quartz and clay (smectite) showed negligible adsorption-values. A rather strong fixation of technetium under aerobic conditions was observed in the presence of pyrite. This is valid for a broad concentration range of technetium (10" 1 to 10"' mol/1).
