End-to-end optimal scheduling scheme for multi-hop IEEE 802.16j (WiMAX) networks

In this paper, an efficient scheduling scheme for multi-hop networks based on IEEE 802.16j is proposed. In this scheme, the wireless resource is optimized in terms of slots and provides high throughput to Real Time Polling Services (rt-PS) class of data traffic. Further, a constraint based scheduling scheme for rt-PS services is also proposed. The proposed scheme is a feedback-based scheduling scheme which combines both uplink and downlink scheduling in IEEE 802.16j networks, i.e., the data of an entire flow is scheduled, rather than in only uplink or the downlink. If a particular subscriber's channel condition is bad for a considerable amount of time, then the channel condition is fed back to the transmitting end, so that proper action is taken to optimize the use of network resources. Through exhaustive simulations the function and performance of the newly proposed scheme is demonstrated.
