A novel automatic datum dimensioning or ordinate dimensioning approach was proposed to address the overlap and intersection issues in the die and mould engineering drawing based on the cutting and packing strategy.The corresponding optimization model was presented with respect to the minimized offset value of the datum dimension as objective,and overlap as the constraints.The proposed algorithm was implemented by utilizing the programming language AutoLISP in AutoCAD software.The practical datum dimensioning cases were given to illustrate the important features of the method.The results indicate that the overlap and intersection issues can be well figured out in the proposed approach.The development time of die and mould is shortened,because of the implementation of automatical dimension.
