Numerical dynamic simulation of a train set running on ballasted track after derailment

Change in running resistance that occurs when wheels run over sleepers or ballast will impact the dynamic motion of a train set. This paper experimentally and theoretically examines vehicle motion in these situations. Using a 1 to 10 scale model vehicle, running tests were performed in which vehicles collided with model iron sleepers. In additional running tests, a real single bogie was made to fall onto ballast or a concrete sleeper. A numerical simulation program capable of calculating dynamic motion of a train after derailment was developed, and the dynamic behavior of five cars following derailment was computed.
