HEMS toolkit: A toolkit for constructing a home energy management system

Increased global interest in environmental issues has led to demands for power consumption reduction of home electronics. Home energy management systems (HEMS) achieve this by monitoring and controlling the power consumption of home electronics. To reduce power consumption adequately, we need to flexibly customize HEMS based on user policies. However, conventional HEMS are completely systematized and it is difficult to customize them. Conventional HEMS lack versatility. In this paper, we develop a toolkit for constructing HEMS. Our developed toolkit adopts rule-based description for monitoring and controlling the power consumption of home electronics. Since we can easily customize HEMS by changing rules, our developed toolkit can provide versatility.
