Operator Requirements for Man-Machine Interfaces of CNC-Machine Tools

Abstract An investigation of operator requirements for man-machine interfaces of CNC machine tools was performed in 13 small and medium enterprises of metalworking industry. For the purpose of a detailed analysis of interview contents a framework of description based on Rasmussen’s model of human performance is introduced, considering task-oriented user behavior and software ergonomic aspects of NC-design simultaneously. This framework is illustrated on the basis of the task “Planning of Machining Strategy”.
