Study on optimization of microwave power beam of phased array antenna for SPS

A SPS (Solar Power Station / Satellite) is a gigantic satellite designed as an electric power plant and transmits the electricity via microwave to a receiving site on the Earth by using phased array antennas. We study on a microwave beam controlling method of the phased array antenna to achieve the efficient power transmission. In this paper, we describe a PAC (Position and Angle Correction) method that is one of the microwave power beam correcting methods for SPS. The PAC method uses pilot signal and estimates positions of the antenna elements and corrects the output phase errors caused by the positions of the antenna elements in order to achieve an optimum form of microwave power beam. We evaluate the effects of the PAC method by analyzing the effects of the phase measurement errors of the pilot signal and the effects of the ambiguities.
