Abstract Investigations regarding the influence of temperature on the shape of ice crystals, grown at water saturation, were carried out in a room-size cold chamber. It was found that the principal shape of the ice crystals—i.e., column- and plate-like forms—alternate with decreasing temperature, and that the mechanism of ice crystal formation is apparently more complicated than existing theories and previous experiments indicate.
