Hard Drives I: Physical Characteristics

Hard disk drives (or hard drives) provide the primary means of data storage in a PC. In general, modern hard drives are fast, reliable and have a large capacity. Until recently, almost all hard drives were fixed, or non-removable (hence the name fixed disk drive). In other words, they could not be removed from the PC. In recent times, however, the so-called removable hard drive has become very popular.
