Detection of multi-species patterns in plant populations

An analytical method for the detection of multi-species spatial patterns in grasslands was investigated. Several data sets of grasslands from the granitic pediment of the Sierra de Guadarrama (Central Spain) were used. The application of correspondence analysis to sequential abundance data of several species allowed the ordination of quadrats in an axis of floristic variation. Coordinate data were then subjected to pattern analysis through the use of variance tests, the results showing the existence of multi-species patches having variable dimensions.
