Improved isolation between closely spaced multiple dipole antennas using a metasurface structure

This paper presents a new method to improve the isolation between two nearly contacting dipole antennas of the same orientation. A thin metasurface is put in parallel with them, and devised to absorb the interfering electromagnetic field from one dipole antenna not to reach the neighboring radiating element by imitating mu-negative characteristics. The isolation gets better by over 10 dB, while the antenna radiation properties and return loss of both the dipoles are acceptable. This idea is tested for a 2.4 GHz MIMO communication hardware.
