Decision support system: A new tool for strategic management

Abstract There is some disagreement in defining the term ‘Strategic Management’ and the scope of strategic management. This article proposes a clearer definition by developing an integrated strategic management model which includes strategic control concepts and incorporates the strengths of existing models. The authors' purpose is to identify the strategic management approach, a managerial effort to cope with an uncertain future; to describe the features of a decision support system; and to illustrate a way to combine both the strategic management concept and a decision support system to enable the firm more effectively to obtain and utilize information important to its strategic decisions.
