APPLICATION OF LINEAR SENSITIVITY METHODS TO VEHICLE DYNAMICS PROBLEMS

SUMMARY Computational methods are described for the calculation and display of eigenvalue, frequency response and steady state response sensitivities, with respect to system parameters, of linear dynamical systems. The problems of computational efficiency and the need for a flexible, easy to use method of displaying results are addressed and a computer implementation of one such method is described. Two examples of the applications of sensitivity analysis are given; (a) a 12th order vehicle handling model, and (b) a 6th order truck-trailer handling model. These are chosen to highlight the effectiveness of the method in highlighting those parameters to which vehicle responses are most sensitive.
