KORSAKOFF'S SYNDROME AFTER OPERATION ON RUPTURED ANEURYSM OF THE ANTERIOR COMMUNICATING ARTERY

In 1953 Norle‘n & Olivecrona observed two cases which apparently developed Korsakoff‘s syndrome after operation on aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery. In both cases the aneurysm had been exposed after retraction of the frontal lobe from the falx, which had required ligation of a number of veins from the frontal lobe to the sinus. A methodical psychiatric study was started to analyse the amnestic disorders in patients operated upon for this kind of aneurysm, but for various reasons it could not be concluded. During the last few years, however, it has again become possible for us to attack these problems.
