High-Flow-Sauerstofftherapie in der Intensivmedizin

Bis die Therapie der zugrunde liegenden Erkrankung zu einer Verbesserung des Gasaustauschs führt, kann die apparative Unterstützung der Oxygenierung und/oder der Ventilation erforderlich werden. Dies sind zentrale Bestandteile der intensivmedizinischen Versorgung. Elemente bei der Unterstützung der Oxygenierung sind die Erhöhung der inspiratorischen Sauerstofffraktion und die Rekrutierung suboptimal belüfteter Lungenparenchymareale durch die Applikation eines positiven endexspiratorischen Drucks (positive end-expiratory pressure, PEEP), während die Unterstützung oder Übernahme der Ventilation durch Beatmung erfolgt.
