Direct implementation of open-closing in morphological filtering

An algorithm for the direct implementation of commonly used 1-D morphological filters is presented. Open-closing and close-opening operations are performed with a single-pass procedure, resulting in a substantial increase in speed, proportional to the length of the structuring element, over alternative implementations.
