Significant Factors Affecting Performance of a Urus Cable Yarder

ABSTRACT THE Urus Cable yarder, rigged as a multispan skyline system, yarded tree length hardwood logs uphill 430 ft at a cost of $72 per thousand board ft. The silvicultural prescription was a diameter limit, partial cut which removed 5,770 board ft per acre. Regression analysis yielded the following equation for cycle time: cycle time, min = 2.95 + 0.0045 (slope yarding distance in ft) + 0.0204 (lateral yarding distance in feet); R^ = 0.46, SE = 1.93 min
