Enhanced flux, erosion resistant membranes for biomass separations — Part I

This feature concerns erosion mechanisms of ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes, and a novel concept termed an ‘embedded membrane’. In the first instalment of this two-part article, which appears here, we provide an introduction to the research and details of the membrane samples under investigation. The visual inspection of the interior surfaces of the membranes, and the results of scanning electron microscope analyses and energy dispersive spectroscopy are also described.
