The pedestrian wind environment problem is a heated discussion with the increasing number of high-rise. In campus planning, this problem is also important, because of the specific characteristics of the campus, such as the height gap between the old building and the newly-built building. This paper introduced the wind environment problems related to these characteristics, and made a case study on the bad wind environment in Tongji University Jiading Campus. In the case study, CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis was applied. By analyzing the wind field around the library, the downwash was identified as the main reason. At last, a solution was discussed to improve the wind environment.
