The invention discloses a method for treating a dump slope of a surface mine. The method comprises the following steps of: treating to ensure that the side slope grade is (1:1.5)-(1:3), wherein if the slope is cohesive soil, the side slope grade is 1:1.5; if the slope is gravel, the side slope grade is 1:3; if the slope is other soil, the side slope grade is (1:1.5)-(1:3); building platforms (2), namely building a horizontal platform every 6 to 12 meters in the vertical height, wherein the width of the platform is 5 meters; building horizontal a drainage ditches (3), namely building the horizontal drainage ditches in the middles of the platforms; building discharging ditches (4), namely building the discharging ditch perpendicular to the horizontal drainage ditch every 30 meters on the slope surface in the horizontal direction, wherein the slope grade is determined according to the rainfall of the place where the slope is, the slope grade a in the north is 2 to 3 degrees, and the slope grade b in the south is 3 to 5 degrees; if the slope grade on the top of a dump cannot meet the requirement, building a canal and ditch net (6) on the top; and growing plant to protect the slope. The conventional dump is transformed by limited engineering and biological control measures, the potential safety hazard of strip mining dumps can be avoided completely, the water losses and soil erosion can be reduced greatly, ecological environment is improved, and mining areas and the environment around the same can be beautified. Meanwhile, the method has the characteristics of low investment and short construction period; and the structure is simple, so that later-stage maintenance cost is low.
