Clofibrate is an established hypolipidemic drug which lowers plasma triglyceride concentrations. The mechanism of its triglyceride lowering action is still uncertain. However, it has been shown that the drug lowers plasma FFA concentration (Rifkind 1966). It has also been shown to inhibit lipolysis in rat (Barrett 1966, Carlson et al. 1972) and human (D'Costa & Angel 1975) adipose tissue.
