Detection of failures in switch reconfigurable antenna arrays using embedded sensing lines

In this paper we discuss the detection of switch failures in reconfigurable antenna arrays. Changes in the antenna array's electromagnetic behavior due to a switch failure are detected by measuring the S parameters of sensing lines embedded into the array substrate. Several prototypes are designed, developed and measured to validate the proposed failure detection methodology.
