Cognitive Development in Adolescence

During the six-year interval since the appearance of the last issue on adolescence, theoretical and research activity with respect to cognitive development has increased tremendously. Unfortunately for our purposes, however, most of this activity has been directed toward the preschool and elementary school periods. The few research studies and theoretical papers that did concern themselves with cognitive development during adolescence were stimulated by the pioneering work of Inhelder and Piaget (1958). During this same interval, interest in adolescent intelligence declined markedly.
