A gate operator for cyclone fencing and the like characterized by a compact arrangement of parts so as to fit within an enclosure having plan dimensions of about 12 x 12 inches and including in vertically stacked relation, a gear reducer-clutch-drive sprocket, and a reversing starter, the arrangement also including a limit switch disposed in side-by-side relation to the gear reducer-clutch-drive sprocket.
