A Convolutional Coded ARQ Scheme with Retransmission Criterion Based on an Estimated Decoding Error Rate for Time-varying Channels

In this paper the performance of the convolutional coded hybrid-ARQ scheme where the retransmission criterion is based on an estimated decoding error rate is evaluated. It is shown by the computer simulation that the average diversity combining scheme can attain almost the same performance as the weighted diversity combining scheme. Furthermore the theoretical bounds of error rate and throughput are derived for the whole and partial retransmission schemes with the average diversity combining for moderately time-varying channels, and it is shown that these schemes can attain a given error rate tolerance with good throughput.
