Neither scientists nor artists are expecting to create a human-like creature, yet. However, scientists have taken the first steps to successfully grow bladders and other organs. Artists are also modifying and growing living tissue to create high-concept, highly provocative, and highly controversial art. The questions raised by artists who use the most basic building blocks of life as their media go far beyond their works' artistic merits. In fact, religious, biological, political, and social issues tend to overshadow the artistic merits.
