Electron beam extraction trajectory as a function of extraction voltage on pulsed electron irradiator

It has been carried out the studying of electron beam extraction from Pulsed Electron Irradiator (PEI) device using the 30 Opera simulation program. In this study, the extraction voltage of PEI was varied to know its effect on the extracted electron beam trajectory. The electron beam is extracted from Plasma Generator Chamber (PGC) toward the acceleration region by using external high voltage (V), and then it is passed through the foil window of PEI for being irradiated to the sample. Methodology in the Opera simulation program consists of how to get the relation equation of the electron beam current je with the extraction voltage V, usage of its shape and measurement of both grid system geometry and PEI. PGC is made of Stainless Steel (SS) with cylindrical shape in diameter Φ J of 30 cm and length l of 90 cm. It is equipped with an electron extraction window in the area of (15×65) cm2, consist of 975 holes in radius r of 0.3 mm each. The cylindrical shape PEI chamber is made of SS in diameter <J of 70 cm and length l of 130 cm. Electron beam extraction from the plasma surface is shown by simulations using the OPERA 30 software. The simulation is carried out based on the plasma surface potential φ of 150 V and the varied extraction voltage V of 5 kV, 10 kV, 20 kV, 30 kV, and 100 kV. From the simulation yield, it is concluded that the extracted electron beam current begins at the extraction voltage V of 20 kV. The extracted electron beam current becomes denser when the extraction voltage increased. It has been carried out the studying of electron beam extraction from Pulsed Electron Irradiator (PEI) device using the 30 Opera simulation program.
